Conflict and the Landscape

Conflict and the Landscape
Thesis design for Ed Chilton
2022
The text of the image-maker Ed Chilton functions as a research travel journal, exploring the aftermath of war through an analysis of the role of visual technologies in the course of battles, the works of artists and photographers, and his own experience.
The visual language of the book follows the narrative, connecting with one line the author's analytical notes in the beginning, that turn into his reflections on the journey in the footsteps of his grandfather, who participated in the Second World War, and leading to Cambodia, the land of which still bears evidence of the catastrophe. By the end of the book, the text gradually takes over the space on the pages letting the voice of the author to sound louder.
